How to “Lean In” In Spite of Gender Stereotypes

As we know, women struggle to learn how to negotiate successfully within the gender stereotypes that linger in corporate America.

Even in light of books like “Lean In” research shows that when women negotiate in the workplace, especially for more money, both men and women view them negatively. So the question is, how can we do it, and do it well?

Emily Amanatullah, an assistant professor of management at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin says one workaround is “other advocacy,” or going to bat for somebody else.
