Women in Top Level Sports Jobs

I hate to say it but I am not surprised by the conversation I had at a while back at a lunch meeting with two women sport professionals employed at a local university.  They are members of the Women’s Intersport Network (WIN), a group of passionate women in the sports field dedicated to making sure women are recognized for their accomplishments in helping women excel in the sport arena.  They explained that they founded this growing organization because there were such few numbers of women being installed in  both state or national sports halls of  fame.  They felt women were  still not making the headway needed at this time in women’s sports. They wanted to ensure women were rewarded for their contributions to women’s sports.

I think it is important to know we have this kind of a “glass ceiling”. We must help women of all ages to be  aware and to help women to understand some of the barriers and battles they will face if they want to be coaches, or administrators in sports programs or to be apart of this sports world.  Time for us all to wake up and get ready to fight for the right of women to excel in sports programs of all kinds.

Funding Not Equal Between Men and Women Sports

I just find it so hard to believe we are still facing these kinds of issues.  If not for Title Nine, many universities and schools would not have female sports programs.  These two women also made it clear to me  that dollars for sporting programs are not necessarily divided equally between the men and women sports venues. Do you have a bone to pick on this topic?  I think we have to pull our heads out of the sand and see that the importance of helping women’s sports programs and recognition need to be on every woman’s “to do list”.  If women do not do this who will?
