Sign The Petition And Guarantee Access For All!

Internetnutzung SehbehinderteJournalist, singer-songwriter, civil rights advocate and avid knitter Donna W. Hill is on a mission – to make the Internet accessible for users who rely on adaptive technologies. Women Connect4Good supports her campaign.
Donna is a blind author and recording artist committed to living as independently as possible. She, along with thousands of other people with low vision, find one of the biggest problems they face in the modern world is access to websites.
People with disabilities face extra challenges to complete everyday tasks such as banking or purchasing goods. As it stands right now, those with vision loss and other print disabilities have access to only 5% of books and magazines, making it difficult to compete in school, college or the job market. As a result, unemployment, poverty, and isolation persist for blind Americans.
However, technologies that make websites, software and digital interfaces accessible to blind people are already here. They’ve been here for decades. There are even free resources to help companies learn to include the appropriate 1s and 0s right from the get-go. The real problem is that companies can use it or not at their own discretion, which leaves blind people at a significant disadvantage.
To make sure that information is accessible to all, Donna urges you to sign a petition to the White House asking President Obama to release the regulations – that have already been formulated – that will make the Internet accessible to blind people. The White House originally promised to release web-accessibility regulations in 2010, however, that date has been pushed back to 2018. The deadline to sign this petition is February 11, so please sign today, share and urge others to do the same.
Donna is a woman making a difference. Knowledge really is power and we join Donna in working to empower those who rely on adaptive technology. Sign HERE.
