It’s Women’s History Month, and for today’s woman, the picture has never been rosier. We are making huge strides in the business world. We currently attain more college degrees than men, and in several countries we even hold the highest office in the land. So yes, we’ve come a long way, baby—and the best part? I think we’re just getting started. In fact, I believe that our power and influence are set to explode. We have the natural skills needed in a global economy that values collaboration and innovation. And now that we’re figuring out how to work together, we’re going to be truly unstoppable.
Women’s History Month gives us the opportunity to celebrate the women who have led the way, and set our intentions for carrying on their work. Even though we still earn less than men, the ERA is still not law and millions of our sisters around the world suffer violence at staggering rates, we need to look at what we have accomplished. In just ten generations women have become more or less equal to men under the law. Women’s organized efforts have developed the hospitals, schools, museums, libraries, and social supports that enrich the civilized life of our communities.
While we still face barriers—in getting credit for our ideas, making our voices heard, claiming and using our power—we need to realize that a whole new movement has begun. Women are finally realizing that connection and collaboration, not competition, is the answer. We’re saying ‘no’ to the scam and yes to the sisterhood of women out there who are passionate, full of purpose, and driven to change the world.
Together we can gain confidence and skills to overcome barriers and reach our goals. We are truly at the vanguard of a movement in which women reach out and help each other to change their lives—and the world. Celebrate Women’s History month and the lives of the women who have come before us. Reach out and take the hand of your sisters and together we can continue their work and create a better future for generations to come.
