Create Healthy Organization by Revitalizing Relationships

Renee MoorefieldAt the Women In Communications Conference in Tulsa, October 2011, keynote speaker Renee Moorefield described ways in which we can create healthier organizations. Moorefield is CEO of Wisdom Works  and co-author of Driven by Wellth: The 7 Essentials for Healthy, Sustainable Results in 21st Century Business & Leadership .
Her entire keynote was interesting, but I especially resonated to her final comments. “First revitalize yourself” she advised. Be the beating heart of your organization by first pumping blood to yourself. You must first heal your relationships in order to become fully present. Worrying about unresolved issues at home or with friends drains energy and attention away when you need to focus.
One good way to revitalize yourself and others at the same time is to help people connect to more of themselves. By helping them connect with their values, you help them become the best of who they are, and empower them to create health and well-being for themselves.
Consumers — and your co-workers — are trending away from isolation and toward affiliation. Help them find their tribe. Help establish your group as a tribe they want to belong to.
Part of maintaining that tribal glue is to nurture collaboration through appreciation and generosity. Remember: team members need FIVE times as much appreciative feedback as developmental feedback. No matter how “constructive” you believe your criticism is, it’s still criticism.
