Today, Dr. Nancy welcomed Montecito Media Group CEO and Executive Editor Gwyn Lurie to discuss the power of collaboration, the need for positive role models, and the impact of lifting up women and girls, which Gwyn said is “the strongest lever for change.” They also explored the importance of storytelling, the value of investing in women, and the positive effects of women leaders. From championing women’s rights to advocating for philanthropy through a network of networks, they uncovered the numerous ways we can support and empower one another.

About Gwyn Lurie:

Gwyn Lurie began her career as a journalist for ABC News in New York, producing the award-winning documentary Voices from the Attic, which tells the harrowing story of her family’s years in hiding during the Holocaust. Transitioning to the entertainment industry, she held executive roles at 20th Century Fox and Interscope Entertainment’s feature film division. She later became an accomplished screenwriter with credits including the feature films Nine Lives and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A dedicated community leader in Santa Barbara, California, Gwyn has served on the Montecito School Board and co-chaired Santa Barbara’s Human Rights Watch Committee. In 2019, she raised capital through local investors to purchase the Montecito Journal and founded the Montecito Journal Media Group, where she is currently CEO and Executive Editor. Additionally, Gwyn co-founded The Giving List Santa BarbaraThe Giving List Los AngelesThe Giving List Bay Area, and The Giving List Women, an international project promoting intersectional feminist philanthropy.
