As a woman in today’s world, it’s easy to feel the weight of others’ expectations. The mental load we carry for our entire families, the glass ceilings we bump up against, the constant risk of burnout, and the pressure to do it all (while looking beautiful always) can drag us down.
It’s hard to think about ways to do good when we feel like we’re barely treading water. But you can, you just need to stop, take a deep breath, and focus on what you have done – what we have done – especially over the past couple of years. We’ve proven that we’re highly adaptable. We’ve had to think on our feet, flex with the imbalances of work and home, and the instant we think we’ve got it figured out, we’ve had to rethink everything and adjust again. The good news is that we are resilient and our ability to connect and create community has helped us persevere. We’ve supported one another and shown empathy, kindness, and grace – even while struggling ourselves. And most importantly, we’ve realized that we can empower ourselves by empowering others.
Empowering ourselves and other women gives us the strength we need to take up space, stand our ground, use our voices, and fight for equality in a world that wants to push us down. When we make ourselves a priority and lift one another up, we are doing our part to turn the tide and bring other women with us. In fact, when women actively work to empower one another, we create massive ripples of change that create better lives for everyone. This change begins when together, we lift women up.
You don’t have to carry the burden of gender inequality alone. The 2023 Lift List – with 52 weeks of brand-new, simple actions – is the answer to lifting yourself and the women around you up to a place of confidence, empowerment, and relentless feminine power.
Lifting women up is more than an idea — it’s women helping women in action and proves how much further we can advance together. Since launching in 2020, Lift Women Up has gained so much momentum it has become more than a campaign, it has become a movement. By downloading The Lift List, you will join thousands of other women and male advocates who are all supporting our mission to create an environment where every person – regardless of gender – is valued, respected, and equally compensated.
Dr. Nancy knows she would not be where she is today without the help and support of the women she has met along the way. That’s why she has made it her life’s work to empower and support other women, to educate women and men about the importance of gender equality, and to support initiatives that focus on women (and men) helping women.
“We’ve leaned in, now we’re lifting up,” Dr. Nancy says. “When we support other women and lift as we rise, anything is possible.”
Audre Lorde wrote that, “Self-care is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation.” Keeping that in mind, Making Yourself Your First Priority is the first category in this year’s Lift List, reminding us that the first woman we need to lift is ourselves. Once we’ve done that, we can lift others from a stronger, more centered place. Each subsequent category includes a number of ways that we can educate, support, and empower our daughters, ourselves, our friends and colleagues, and the women who currently (and soon will) lead the way. The Lift List also links to a number of fantastic resources, including several of Women Connect4Good’s partners and organizations where you can make a difference.
Small changes add up, and when we all take steps to support one another we can lift up the world. Download the 2023 Lift List now! As you start working your way through the action items, urge the women and male advocates in your life to do the same. That’s how change starts. Remember, every single one of us can create change by showing up. We are better, stronger and more resilient together.
