The Womans Playbook Talks Empowerment for Women Vets

Website and Radio ShowTo honor the 4th of July, multimedia journalist and commentator Joanna L. Krotz featured the program, “Betting on Vets” on her live Web radio show, The Woman’s Playbook. Joanna created the show by and for women entrepreneurs: “Because being equal doesn’t mean being the same.”?

Special Challenges for Women Vets

Nearly 2 million U.S. veterans suffer the same challenges as male vets: isolation, unemployment, work-family pressures, homelessness, adjusting to civilian life, and psychological and physical disabilities. Add to that the other burdens of working women throughout the country: lower pay for equal work, gender discrimination, lesser opportunities and chance for promotions, and it makes sense that most of the resources go to men.

How V-WISE Bets on Vets

“Betting on Vets” features a unique public-private program that trains ex-military women to start businesses that restart their lives. A partnership of the Small Business Administration (SBA) and Syracuse University, the three-phase program has trained over 1,300 female service vets and military spouses since 2011. It’s called Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepeneurship (V-WISE).
